Unexpected events have filled our last month with reasons to praise the Lord. An open Sunday gave us opportunity to visit a nearby local church in Kissimmee, Florida. During a fellowship hymn, the pastor kindly asked, “Will you sing?” Always eager to serve the Lord, we not only sang that Sunday, but also returned for the following Youth Sunday. It was a privilege to see the Lord revive the hearts of his people. Then on January 5th, we received news that Mom’s dad, Ron Merrill, had b een placed under hospice care and could die at any moment. We immediately hitched up our two rigs and made an unanticipated trip to Greenville, South Carolina. For the next 10 days, Mom, with help from the rest of the family and continual visits from the wonderful hospice nurse, cared for Grandpa nonstop. Reading from Mom’s tribute entitled, Getting 100% Well, “Ron Merrill entered Glory on his 75th birthday, January 16, 2011 in Greenville, South Carolina at 5:40 p.m., while the whole family was singing around his bedside. The last instructions by the hospice nurse Diane, which I wrote in my n otebook, were ‘Turn him at 8:00 p.m.’ He did turn, right into heaven and now all is 100% well!” Throughout those two tough weeks, God gave comfort and strength beyond what we could humanly imagine.
On the way back to Florida, we experienced another unforeseen incident. During rush hour traffic in Orlando on January 21, my rig was involved in a three car crash. There was extensive damage to the right side of our truck and RV, but praise the Lord that Jaron, Titus, Judy and I are all safe. With the truck repairs almost finished, we are trusting God concerning the timing, insurance, and RV repair details. The last day of January, we did a concert with over 100 in attendance in Clermont, Florida and look forward to another concert this coming Saturday.
A couple days before Grandpa passed, he said, “I’m going to heaven and I’m not coming back.” Like many of you and your loved ones, we are looking forward to the day when, “In the sweet by and by, we shall meet on that beautiful shore.” |
